JANUARY BOOK PROJECT (and February. And maybe March, we’ll see how it goes.)
For the months of January and February (and perhaps March), we will participate in the Place Out of Time simulation (or "POOT" for short.). Place Out of Time is a program created and administered by the Interactive Communications & Simulations group at the University of Michigan. It's a fun and engaging project that has students choosing a notable figure from any place and/or time in history, researching their life and times, and then portraying them in a series of classroom and online conversations. The big idea is "what could we learn by bringing the diverse perspectives of history to consider a contemporary issue?" For example, what if Cleopatra, William Shakespeare, and Harry Houdini had a conversation about border security?
This is a very in depth project with lots of cool activities, so stay tuned - you'll hear a lot more about this as the project continues! Check out the ICS (another acronym) website for more information!

SCIENCE AND MAKER FAIR
February 28th! We’ve made a deal with the kids - if they complete a Science Fair project, they won’t have to do a Book Project in June!
If you’d like to hear a little about what’s been happening in class lately, ask your child about any of the following:
Oh boy, that’s a lot of information. We’d be surprised if anyone was still reading this. If you are, you’ll learn that Ko ate many dumplings in Taiwan and Jason contemplated the profession of Falconer at Medieval Times over the break. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to contact us.
