Hello Parents and Families!
Our MCF projects are coming along! Click here for pictures of our works-in-progress. Thanks go out to Angie Watson for coming in to help us on Wednesday!
Helping out can take many forms! There are supplies that we need. Some kids need help figuring out how to construct things out of cardboard, others would benefit from some proofreading and editing assistance, and still others might need help reading and deciphering information about their topic. Basically, if you have the time, we can put you to work!
We had three more wonderful speakers join us this week:
Al Gallup, long time resident of Ann Arbor (his father helped create Gallup Park) shared wonderful stories about growing up in Ann Arbor. (Take a look at this video of Al’s father orchestrating the excavation and installation of the famous “paint rock” on Washtenaw back in 1932!). Special thanks go out to Celia Ross for helping us coordinate guest speaker Al Gallup!
Jessica Kelly, School Board Trustee, explained how our school system works and the School Board’s role in our education system.
Britain Woodman, who is writing a book about Ann Arbor, joined us today to talk about some interesting historical facts about Ann Arbor and share with us his research process. Check out his blog at Www.a2retail.space
A Special Visit and a Prize!
Today, we had an all-school assembly with some very special guests. State Superintendent Sheila Alles, District Superintendent Jeanice Swift, Mayor Christopher Taylor, and many of their colleagues joined us to celebrate our friend and colleague, Chad Downs (3/4 teacher), as he was awarded the Milken Educator Award! Take a look here! And here! Congratulations to Chad!
2019 Science Olympiad is HERE! It is open to students in 2nd -5th grade. Practice will begin in January and culminates on competition day, May 11, 2019! Please continue to ask the new coaches ; Erica Dierkens McLeod and Erica Businski Colone, any questions! There will be a parent info meeting on Friday, December 14th 3:30-4:30 in the auditorium.
As with last week, it’s basically all-MCF, all the time this week. Check in with your child about their project!
