About Ko and Jason
Ko and Jason first met when Jason's niece was in Ko's class, when Ko was team teaching with Rick Hall. Jason completed his student teaching with Rick and Ko in 2010. When Ko's teammate retired, Jason was eager to join the staff at Ann Arbor Open and team up with Ko. They have oodles of fun in the classroom, and their love of learning is infectious.
Ko Shih is a 5/6 grade teacher at Ann Arbor Open @ Mack. This is her fifteenth year of teaching. She grew up in Ann Arbor and attended Ann Arbor Open as a student!
Ko received her degree from Eastern Michigan University. She also has a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration. Ko is every excited to continue her career at Ann Arbor Open. This is exactly where she envisioned herself being. Ko lives in Ann Arbor and can often be spotted out enjoying the community with her puppy!
(also, Jason is much more wordy than Ko.)
This is Jason’s seventh year as a 5/6 grade teacher, and his second at Ann Arbor Open School. Open is the school that made Jason want to be a teacher, so he is thrilled to be joining the community as a teacher and as a parent (his daughter Violet will be a first grader this year).
Jason graduated from Eastern Michigan University with endorsements in Language Arts and Integrated Science. He taught for five years at Summers-Knoll, a progressive, independent K-8 school in Ann Arbor. In addition to his work as a classroom teacher, Jason has worked extensively with 826michigan, leading workshops, illustrating stories, and building robots. He also taught for three years at the dearly departed Green Adventures Camp.
His last name is pronounced many different ways by many different people, so you should probably just call him Jason.
